BEACH
Messakti Beach
Bustling or secluded, organized or free, the beaches of Ikaria have something for every vacationer. One of the most famous beaches of the island is Messakti; a beautiful beach, endowed with soft golden sand along its wide shore, where you can rent sun-beds and umbrellas to enjoy a day diving in its crystal waters and basking in the sun. Messakti is also a favorite beach for surfers, and when the weather conditions are favorable, they come to ride the waves that break near its shore. You will also find a surf school there to take surfing lessons, as well as surfboards to rent and try out your newly acquired skills.
Nas Beach
In the region of Kato Raches, close to Armenistis, you will encounter Nas beach, most known for its famous sunset view. The beach is actually a small bay that is enclosed by extraordinary rock formations, and lies at the end of the gorge of Chalari, where a river with the same name flows into a deep inlet right before the seashore. The sea there is prone to heavy swells and swimmers are cautioned to be careful when the waves get wild. You will be amazed by the crystal clear waters and its impressive surroundings. After your invigorating swim in Nas, you may visit the ruins of an ancient temple dedicated to Tavropolos Artemis, right next to the beach, and take in the mystifying energy of the scene. Nas Beach is just the place to capture the best sunset in Ikaria.
Seychelles Beach
One of the most exotic beaches of Ikaria, as its name denotes. The wild beauty of this beach is breathtaking; the turquoise waters, similar to the ones one finds at exotic lagoons, and the imposing carved rocks and cliffs surrounding the beach, create an astonishing, otherworldly landscape. Seychelles beach has a mixture of fine, blindingly white sand with smooth pebbles and, as you have already suspected, it is not an organized beach. Bear in mind that the access to this idyllic beach is a bit adventurous, so bring a pair of closed anti-slipping shoes with you. You can leave your car on the main road, in a parking space. It is a short-lived hassle though, and the beach is definitely going to reward you tenfold.
